Horse Empowered Learning Programs, Inc. (H.E.L.P.) has been serving the greater Austin area since 1984, providing therapeutic riding (TR) and equine-facilitated learning (EAL) to clients with physical and mental disabilities. H.E.L.P. aims to help individuals grow in strength and independence through personalized activities in partnership with horses. Services are delivered at a temporary facility that includes a covered arena and barn. H.E.L.P. works with a herd of equine partners chosen for their gentle demeanor. All services are provided by PATH International instructors and certified mental health professionals. H.E.L.P. serves children and adults with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. Instructors create individualized lesson plans to address each client's needs while teaching horseback riding skills. Individual and class goals encourage riders to be their best both on and off the horse. H.E.L.P. offers horsemanship activities and therapeutic riding. Therapeutic Riding (TR) is an equine-assisted activity that contributes to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with special needs. The program is designed to complement ongoing therapy and education. The benefits of therapeutic riding include physical improvements (muscle relaxation and strength, improved body tone, posture, balance, joint mobility, and coordination), emotional growth (self-confidence and emotional well-being), and social skills development (positive self-image and a sense of being part of a team).
